CONTAINER GARDENING 11 FLOORS UP

GARDEN JOURNAL

What’s on your Windowsill?

Gayla at yougrowgirl.com has posed the question this week and by the many responses it seems that Canadian gardeners have got spring fever.

OK, so my plants below are not technically on the windowsill because it’s not quite deep enough. But right in front of the windowsill are the three troughs that are wintering over in the condo. They contain cactus from the region, still wrinkly from their winter rest, two different Haworthia and a cobweb Sempervivum. A container of a spreading, ground cover bamboo has sprouted leaves throughout the winter and is now starting to push our fresh spikes of green, the Agave pup is still settling in and growing roots and three little pots of just-planted basil are going to need more sun. It’s still a little early here, but the winter melt on the other side of the glass is well underway.
